Things to do on the Chicago Riverwalk

The Chicago Riverwalk runs along the south bank of the Chicago River through the Loop, a level, walkable stretch lined with bars, restaurants and boat docks below the skyscrapers of the Loop and Streeterville.

Most architecture river cruises depart from docks here or nearby, typically lasting 60 to 90 minutes and priced from around 45 to 55 USD a person. Water taxis also stop along the route, a cheaper way to cross downtown than a cab. The Riverwalk is reachable on foot from any Loop L station, or by Metra into Ogilvie or Union Station.

It is liveliest from spring through early fall; in deep winter, many riverside bars and kiosks close and the path is quieter and colder.
